Looking forward to Black Friday?

But what about Blackout Wednesday?

Blackout Wednesday? Yep. That’s what it has become known as, nationwide. The Wednesday before Thanksgiving. Annually has the highest total of the year for liquor sales. And sadly, also the highest fatality totals of the year for accidents involving drunk drivers. In fact, in 2022, Mothers Against Drunk Driving, said 35% of the year’s fatalities for drunk driving fatalities occur that day.

Blackout Wednesday. Dang. How many families’ Thanksgiving holidays this year will be shattered with losing a family member? Thousands. It’s not just sad, it’s horrific.

You know, I’m not against anyone having a drink, celebrating or having a good time. Finally getting to hang with family and friends ought to be nothing but fun.

But too often times like these end up being a nightmare. It doesn’t have to be that way. Problem is, when it comes to alcohol, things often don’t go as planned.

Even if you’ve gone overboard drinking before, you still underestimate the effects of alcohol. Then regret it. It’s not like we set out to get completely hammered, right? Well, maybe sometimes.

But so often it happens. Too often, perhaps. No one likes being out of control, but to be honest, it’s tough to control alcohol. For some more than others—and if that includes you, it’s no fault of your own.

Don’t get me wrong, you may choose to drink, but you don’t get to choose its effect. There are a number of reasons why one guy can drink only one or two, then stop with no problem, and then the next guy has a couple and ends up completely tanked.

No matter who you are, after a couple of drinks, chances are your judgment is gone. Even if you normally have plenty of self control. And then there’s everyone else who seems to be having a blast. Why not another?

Your drinking can easily get to a place where you wonder why you’re not controlling it better. And you blame yourself, and swear you’re going to slow down, but then don’t.

It’s a vicious cycle. The more you disappoint those who love you, the more you blame yourself. The more you blame yourself, the more likely you just have another.

And it continues. I said earlier it’s not your fault. After all, alcohol is considered scientifically more addictive than opioids. When you think about it, it’s a wonder we drink it at all. Can you imagine having friends or family over a few nights a week to do a few shots of heroine?

I don’t fault anyone who finds themselves drinking a bit more, a bit more often than they feel is good for them. Been there, done that. I’ve looked down on others, then found myself right there.

But there’s a way out, and it’s doable. I’ll help you end that cycle. Get to a place where you’re in control. A place where the only thing dark about your holiday week is Black Friday.

A place where you’re truly thankful for what you have and where you’re headed. Let’s get started.

Here’s to holiday cheer!
